Announcement: Join the Growing Migration to the new SEO Page Generator

Back in February, we held a webinar where we previewed our upcoming upgrade to the SEO page generator engine. We are pleased to announce that we are now in the process of migrating sites, and we are looking for early adopters.

The page generator is an essential part of any SuiteCommerce or SuiteCommerce Advanced site, as they ensure that your web pages are accessible to search engines. As our sites are single-page applications powered by JavaScript, if we didn't have a page generator, there is a risk that search engines would not be able to render it and view your page's content — bad news for site administrators who rely on search engine rankings.

The new page generator, powered by Prerender, is a replacement for the current engine that should improve performance, improve debugging, and avoid some snafus that previously affected some of our customers (eg 'out of memory' errors).

The migration has already begun and we have spaces in the early migration for anyone who wishes to get it as soon as possible. All you need to do is make contact with support — we can handle the rest.

When Will the Migrations Happen?

We have scheduled the migrations to happen during two date ranges:

  • Early upgrades — November 19-21, 2018
  • Standard upgrades — January 14-16, 2019

The early upgraders should have already taken steps to test their site (see the aformentioned webinar blog post) and are happy to do this before/during the holiday season.

What Can I Expect and What Do I Need to Do?

The new service replaces the legacy service on your SuiteCommerce sites (both production and sandbox); you do not have to make any template, bundle or configuration changes to benefit from it.

Rendered output may be different from the legacy service, so we recommend you verify that the rendered output for your site(s) provides the SEO and social media content that you would expect.

How Do I Preview the new SEO Page Generator Service?

The blog post describes how to preview the new SEO page generator, as well as providing tips on how to optimize your site for SEO.

We recommend verifying the page source for SEO/social media-relevant output for the following pages on your site:

  • Homepage/landing pages
  • Product list pages
  • Product detail pages
  • Site-specific customizations

It's important to compare the output between the legacy and new services.

What Happens When My Site is Migrated?

From the date of upgrade, all uncached hits to your site will automatically be powered by the new SEO Page Generator.
