New and Updated Resources

Every week we update Developers.SuiteCommerce with new and updated content from our technical publications team. You may not be aware of some of the changes that have happened recently, so I want to run through a few of my favorites that have been published over the past few weeks.

Customization Guidance

Quite a lot of the articles I write are about how you can make customizations to your site. To support that effort, we are producing a number of documents to go along with these articles in order to give a complete view on the process: from not only how to do specific things, but what steps you should take when making your own customizations. You can find this documentation in the Customizing and Extending section of the site.

The importance of these guidelines is best illustrated by the different types of files that are used in SuiteCommerce Advanced. While a lot of our code is JavaScript, for example, our advice on how to work with it varies depending on whether you're working with new or existing modules, adding in child views, making modifications to configuration properties, or it is processed on the front or backend.

Video Tutorials and Training

In a previous post on certification I mentioned that we have added videos from our training team about SCA. What you may not know is that we have also started adding videos providing walkthroughs on some of the basics of developing on SCA.

So, if you've ever wanted to see the steps to, say, adding an SMT area to a template or configuring configure the image settings for your site, you should take a look at our Video Library.

Like our training videos, these are hosted on YouTube for your viewing pleasure.

GTM Container Generator

In case you missed my article on Google Tag Manager, you'll pleased to know that the Mont Blanc release of SuiteCommerce Advanced includes support for Google Tag Manager.

In that article I go into some of the benefits of GTM, and in the documentation we go through the steps for setting it up. But the special thing I wanted to highlight is the special tool we created that generates a container that you can import into Google Tag Manager. It's pretty neat: all you have to do is select the services you're going to use, enter your account IDs and hit submit. By importing the generated container into GTM, you can cut down the amount of time it takes to set up and reduce the likelihood of errors.

Extra: NetSuite Blog

A sister site, NetSuiteBlogs.com, regularly features ecommerce-related posts that you may find useful.

For example, we recently ran a post featuring a checklist for a successful SEO strategy when going live, as part of a series on SEO.

Given the nature of the blog, the posts are non-technical, so it may be more useful to users who are more interested in the strategic-side of running an online store.

What are your favourite NetSuite resources? Are there any we haven't provided that you think we should?
