The SuiteCommerce Featured Category extension lets you highlight a commerce category on your website. You can customize the appearance and the behavior of the Featured Category section. When users click on an item, they are directed to the product page. You can choose how many rows of items you want to show and add a button to link to the category page.


SuiteCommerce extensions are only available if they are provisioned and set up in your account. For more information, see NetSuite SuiteCommerce Extensions.


You must have enabled Commerce Categories for your SuiteCommerce site and have created at least one category to use this extension. To set up a commerce category, see Commerce Categories.

For each item highlighted in the Featured Category section, an image and the product name is displayed. Product images are taken directly from the Item record. If there are multiple images associated with the record, the first image in the Item record is displayed. Your theme’s image placeholder is used if there are no images in the Item record.

If you make pricing information available to all customers, the item’s price is also shown. For matrix items with different prices, a price range is displayed.

Items are sorted within the Featured Category according to the sort field settings in your website’s setup record. If you have set up the CommerceCategory field as a sort field, items are sorted by the category in descending order. If you do not have it set up, items are ordered by the item ID in descending order. See Select and Configure Sort Fields.

If the category contains more items than those required to complete the rows, the first items in the list are selected.

You can add a featured category to multiple areas on your website using Site Management Tools. For more information on Site Management Tools, see SMT Overview.

To add a featured category:

  1. Go to the page where you want to add a featured category.

  2. Click Add on the Site Management toolbar.

  3. Drag the Featured Category content type to the page.


    If you do not see this content type, check that the extension has been installed and has been activated. Click the Settings button on the Site Management toolbar to access the Content Manager. Drag the content type from the Inactive Content Types list to the Active Content Type list.

    You can drag the Featured Category content type to multiple areas on the page:

    • If you drag it to an area marked as all pages, then the content displays on any page that contains that area.

    • If you drag it to an area marked as page type, then the content displays on any page of that type.

    • If you drag it to an area marked as this page, then the content displays only on the page that you add it to.

  4. Use the Name field to enter a description of your new content.

  5. Set the content visibility options.

  6. In the Category ID field, enter the commerce category ID.

    This is the internal ID of the commerce category record. To get the ID, go to Lists > Web Site > Commerce Categories and view the Commerce Category record.

    When you enter a valid commerce category ID, the products belonging to that category are displayed in the page preview. This field is required to display Featured Category on your website.

  7. Enter the title you want to display at the top of the Featured Category section in the Header field.

  8. In Number of Rows, select the number of rows of products you want to display.

    The number of columns is determined by the Results Display Options subtab in the SC Configuration record for your domain. See Result Display Options Subtab.


    If you change the number of columns for Featured Categories in the Result Display Options subtab, you also change the number of columns displayed in the product search results.

  9. If you want to display a button to take users to the category page, enter the button text in the Button Text field.

    If you leave this field blank, no button appears.

  10. Select the type of button you want to use in the Button Style field.

    The button definition is taken from your theme.

  11. Use the Tags field to enter keywords that help you filter your content in the Review Changes list.

  12. Click Save.

If you have not published your featured category and you decided to remove it, you can discard it. If you have already published your featured category, you can remove it directly from the page where it is located. To discard the featured category:

  1. Go to the Review & Publish Changes list.

  2. Select the Featured Category content in the list.

  3. Click Discard.

  4. Click OK.

To remove the featured category:

  1. Go to the page that contains the featured category you want to remove.

  2. Click the Featured Category box.

    This highlights it and displays the content controls.

  3. Click Remove.

  4. Click OK.
