Best practice indicates that you should have your CSR ready when purchasing SSL certificates.
You can purchase an SSL certificate from the certificate authority of your choice as long as it meets the restrictions listed in the topic Select Type of SSL Certificate.
Submit a CSR
Open the .csr file in a text editor such as Notepad and then copy and paste the data from the .csr file into the appropriate area of the enrollment form provided by the certificate authority. Do not use Microsoft Word for this process, as it may insert extra hidden characters that alter the contents of the CSR.
After your company's identity has been verified, the certificate authority typically sends you an email message to inform you that it is time to Retrieve your Certificates.
